Recalls on file

NHTSA has 5 recalls on file for the Thor Motor Coach ACE. The most common areas are step and ladder (1), glass, side and rear (1) and exterior lighting (1). Each one is listed below as filed. A recall is fixed free at a dealer, even on a used rig, and even years later.

Recalls on the engine, brakes and chassis of a motorhome are often filed under the chassis maker, such as Ford, Freightliner or Mercedes, not under the coach. A VIN check shows both.

Step/ladder · model year 2022 · 22V076000, filed February 10, 2022

What is wrong. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2022 ACE, Freedom Traveler, Hurricane, and Windsport motorhomes. The rear ladder may have been installed on the wrong side of the motorhome.

What can happen. An incorrectly installed ladder may break while in use, increasing the risk of injury.

The fix. Dealers will inspect the location of the rear ladder, and reinforce or relocate the ladder as needed, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 24, 2022. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000255.

Glass, side/rear · model years 2020 to 2021 · 20V339000, filed June 9, 2020

What is wrong. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2020-2021 ACE, 2021 Four Winds and 2020 Gemini, Axis, Compass, Delano, Windsport, Hurricane, Outlaw, and Vegas motorhomes. The adhesive bond between the glass and the metal hinge frame of the frameless windows may fail which would then allow the glass to detach and fall out.

What can happen. If the window glass detaches while the vehicle is moving it could become a projectile, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix. TMC will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the frameless windows for proper adhesive bond strength, replacing the windows as necessary, free of charge. The recall began July 10, 2020. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC's number for this recall is RC000192.

General RV equipment · model years 2011 to 2018 · 17V758000, filed November 22, 2017

What is wrong. Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V758-5764.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

What can happen. In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

The fix. Thor will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-500-1020, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Exterior lighting · model year 2018 · 17V692000, filed November 2, 2017

What is wrong. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2018 Ace, Axis, Hurricane, Windsport, and Vegas motorhomes. The wiring for the trailer lights may have been inserted into the wrong locations of the trailer lighting socket causing the trailer lights to not function properly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

What can happen. If the trailer lights do not function as intended, it can increase the risk of a crash.

The fix. Thor has notified owners and dealers will re-wire a new connector, free of charge. The recall began on November 21, 2017. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020. TMC's number for this recall is RC000148.

Trailer hitches · model year 2017 · 17V239000, filed April 10, 2017

What is wrong. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2017 Ace, Hurricane, and Windsport motorhomes. The weight rating labels for the tow hitches on these vehicles indicate a 10,000lb weight capacity when the actual hitch capacity is 8,000lbs.

What can happen. If the hitch is loaded to the capacity on the label, the hitch may damage the motorhome or the hitch may disconnect from the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of the crash.

The fix. TMC will notify owners and provide them corrected labels, free of charge. The recall began on May 22, 2017. Owner's may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020.

Does the Thor Motor Coach ACE have any recalls?

Yes. NHTSA lists 5 recalls for it. The most common area is step and ladder. Check your own VIN on the NHTSA site to see if yours was fixed.
